“Hard work is the only way.”

Mike Babbitt
M.F.A, M.A., CSCS, ACSM-HFI
USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach, Master Trainer

Mike has a unique approach to fitness that combines his scientific foundation of research and applied exercise physiology with his artistic experience as a professional stage actor. This blended background promises the ability to adapt to individual differences and to getting more out of people than even they knew they had. Mike recognizes that no two people are alike, each starting from a different place and with different goals, so no two people should have the same fitness program. Mike joined the Empower team in 2008, and he was promoted to closing shift supervisor in 2009.

Mike has experience training novices and elite level athletes. He has also worked extensively with geriatric populations as well as patients in cardiac rehabilitation and breast cancer survivors.

Mike is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also a certified Health and Fitness Instructor from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a Level 1 Triathlon Coach with USA Triathlon Association. Mike received both his MA in Exercise Physiology and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In his spare time, Mike is an active triathlete with experience from short course to long course racing and he competed at the ironman-distance level in 2009. Mike believes a coach does not need to be an elite level athlete himself; however, he must have the will and drive to push himself to excel above and beyond the mundane. Mike is an independent filmmaker and also enjoys spending time with his wife and working with his church.
