“Your health and the health of your family
should be a top priority . . . it is never too late
to invest in your health.”

Julie King
B.A., NASM-CPT, Personal Trainer

Julie brings the latest in fitness education and exercise science research to the Empower Team.  Through her educational background she has learned to apply both a preventive and therapeutic approach to exercise.   Julie believes that exercise is key in preventing disease, correcting muscular imbalances, and delaying the signs of aging.  She has experience in training people from a wide variety of backgrounds, from children to the elderly, from the de-conditioned to the ultra fit.  Her passion for helping people has translated into her career as a personal trainer and her desire to help others reach their fitness goals.  Julie King joined the Empower team in 2010.

Before coming to Empower Julie worked on multiple research teams for the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health.  While at UNC she facilitated health initiative programs in the community to encourage people to improve their nutrition and exercise habits.  Julie has also developed an interest in rehabilitative exercise through volunteering for Get Real and HEEL, a program for breast cancer survivors.  Through this experience she learned how to use exercise to reverse the effects of disease and beat the stress and fatigue that accompanies cancer treatment and recovery.

Julie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the summer of 2009.  She is certified as a personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Outside of personal training Julie has a passion for travel and dance.  Dance has allowed her to help others gain a sense of body awareness and has given creativity to her training style.
