“It is essential to incorporate exercise into one’s daily routine. We eat meals, we brush our
teeth…we should exercise”

Jamie Ives
MA, CSCS
Master Trainer

Jamie has several years of experience in the fitness industry, working with clients of various ages, ability levels, and health conditions. He enjoys using his knowledge as well as his experience in exercise prescription and program design to help each of his clients reach their individual wellness goals and improve their quality of life. Jamie believes in a functional approach to exercise and often implements fun and challenging exercises that leave his clients in eager expectation of their next session. His clients have included both healthy and clinical populations from post-treated breast cancer survivors in his thesis work to members of the UNC men’s football team.

Before joining the Empower team in 2009, Jamie held several different positions within the health and wellness field. His previous work includes serving as a fitness graduate assistant while he was completing his Master’s at UNC, working as a personal trainer at 02 fitness in Raleigh and as a fitness instructor with UNC Healthcare. Such experiences have exposed Jamie to many different training principles and have provided him with a wealth of knowledge that he uses with every client.

Jamie is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). In 2005, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, double majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and Psychology. Jamie returned to UNC and in 2009 he completed a Masters of Arts degree in Exercise Physiology. Jamie’s upcoming goal is to become certified as an ACSM Clinical Exercise Specialist.

A true “tar heel,” Jamie enjoys playing basketball with friends in his free time. He also likes spending time with his wife Katie and their 2 kittens Asher and Poe.
