Before I began working out with Katy at Empower, all I would do is hope that tomorrow would be the day I started working out and lament my deteriorating physical condition. I was within a few years of 50, but not liking how I was feeling. It only took one workout with Katy to realize why previous attempts to workout on my own provided no results and were a true waste of time. Every workout with Katy is focused and fully supervised so that I do all the movements correctly to get the maximum benefit from the time I allocate to my workout. It was seven months and six dress sizes (18 to 12, if you are curious) ago that I started training at Empower. As great as those numbers are, they don’t tell the whole story. There are other numbers – 44 push-ups, 50 mountain climbers, 6.0 miles/hour on the treadmill – that also mark the difference between where I was then and where I am now.
What the numbers don’t show is this incredible interior transformation I’ve gone through. For the first time, this bookworm who used to skip P.E. for Latin Club or Debate Team thinks of herself as “powerful” and “mentally tough.” Not only did my trainer teach me to exercise safely and regularly (surprisingly sophisticated skills I would have never figured out on my own), but having him in my corner to encourage me and hold me accountable helped me have the courage to challenge myself to live better. I have been working out with the Ladies Boot Camp class two days a week at Empower Personal Training. The class challenges me, but I still have lots of fun. This class is the only exercise I get now that I’m pregnant, and I plan to come back as soon as possible after the baby is born.
