I am not a person who usually makes public endorsements, of anything. Grace (my wife) and I have been going to Empower Personal Training here in Durham for over a year now (Grace for 2 years). I’ve been a life long runner who had a lot of joint issues as I approached my 50th year. I went to Duke Sports Medicine for several months but couldn’t resolve them. Grace convinced me to join Empower, and it has been transforming. I’m probably stronger than I was at age 21 and I’m running again. This is a group of professionals who offer 1:1 training in ways that address your specific goals. It’s also been a great stress reliever. I’m not sure what a PDC endorsement involves, but this could be a group of professionals who can help our professionals (physicians). They are not a franchise. They are a group of trained and certified folks who are dedicated to fitness.

I would also add a personal vote of confidence for Empower. They are a very professional and female friendly group who offer a high level of expertise. There are quite a few Duke MDs who already go there regularly and I think it would be an excellent opportunity for PDC members.

I am pleased to write this strong letter supporting Empower Personal Training. I have known Michael Whitehurst for over two years as my trainer at Empower Personal Training here in Durham. While I have benefited from my relationship with him from a fitness perspective, I have also been able to observe his leadership skills as a Training Manager as the Empower team has grown.
Michael clearly has a terrific knowledge of fitness, and I have been the recipient of several approaches to fitness that he is familiar with. The variety is nice, and it clearly helps me work on different aspects of my overall health and fitness.
I speak from the perspective of a physician. I have such confidence in Michael and in Empower that I have referred many others to this company.
